Universal’s Monster Force Recommissioned for DVD
I always loved everything involving monsters as a kid. That’s probably part of the reason “Masters of the Universe” and “Inhumanoids” still hold a special place in my heart. There’s a good chance that if I hadn’t been too old for kiddy toy toons by the time “Monster Force” came along in 1994 I’d have been a big fan of it too.
An animated series commissioned by Universal built around some of their most famous monsters, “Monster Force” centered on a group of teens in the year 2020 using high-tech weaponry to fight off classic Universal Monsters and other assorted supernatural foes threatening mankind. The good guy dubbed themselves the “Monster Force” and included a teenage werewolf and Frankenstein’s monster. The archnemesis, the “Creatures of the Night”, consisted of Dracula, the Creature from the Black Lagoon, a mummy, another werewolf, and the Bride of Frankenstein.
“Monster Force” only lasted for 13 episodes back in the fall of 1994 before fading into obscurity and has gone virtually unseen since. That will change on September 15th when Universal releases a boxset of the first seven episodes. No extras.
You’d think it would be more practical to just release the entire 13-episode run in one fell swoop given how few of them there are but then Universal wouldn’t be able to gouge you for the next six episodes later on. They are the real monsters, you know?
