Warner Bros. Descends Into Dante’s Inferno

Adapting any part of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem Divine Comedy seems damn near impossible. However, the boys and girls at Warner Bros. are apparently willing to give it a shot. The studio recently purchased writer Dwain Worrell’s pitch for Dante’s Inferno.

According to Deadline, the project is “based on the epic love story that is at the core of Dante’s Inferno. Dante descends through the nine circles of hell to save the woman he loves.” Warner Bros. is reportedly interested in the idea due to its “scale and franchise potential.”

Some of you are probably asking, “Is this a horror movie? I’m not really interested in watching a romance based on an old poem.” It’s worth noting that Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road will co-produce the flick. Goldsman previously handled such genre-related titles as Constantine, I Am Legend, Jonah Hex, and three of the Paranormal Activity flicks. And while his track record may not be the best, there’s a chance Dante’s Inferno will have enough genre elements to appeal to horror fans.

Since Dante’s Inferno is still in its infancy, details about the upcoming Warner Bros. project are obviously few and far between. However, it’s one we’ll certainly keep our eyes on.
