Meet Grin – Killer Clown and Star of His Own Movie
You need to contribute to the killer clown flick Grin on Indiegogo. You see, the clowns have kidnapped director J.P. Hoffman and will kill him if the fundraising goal is not met. His life is in your hands.
He reached out to Dread Central, saying that the head clown, Grin, whom the film is named after, had agreed to grant us an interview. Hopefully this will make more people aware of the Indiegogo campaign so that J.P.’s life can be spared.
See the horrific ransom video below:

Dread Central: So I understand that the director was kidnapped and forced to make the film?
Grin: Yes, We have chosen Philadelphia filmmaker J.P. Hoffman as our director; he is being held for a $100,000 ransom, which we need to make our film. His life rests in your wallet.
DC: How did GRIN come about?
Grin: Our dream is to have a legendary horror film made. We sought out director J.P. Hoffman, who didn’t want to take on the project due to the graphic intensity and his fear of clowns, but we weren’t taking no for an answer. Someone suggested kidnapping a director so we did, and the rest, hopefully, will be history
DC: As the film is about a circus, will there be a lot of killer freaks on display?
Grin: The film is mainly about Grin, Kisses, and Karnage and our revenge for our father’s death; there will be a few other freaks, but we’ll leave the killings to us.
DC: As this is about a freak show, was Tod Browning’s Freaks an inspiration?
Grin: Honestly, no, the film doesn’t really revolve around the freak show; it’s a revenge film with clowns. We want to take elements from different styles of horror and combine that with the fear and creepiness of clowns. It seems like it would be a recipe for a successful horror film. Imagine Texas Chain Saw Massacre in a clown mask.
DC: So the plot is about the circus performers taking revenge on a corrupt mayor?
Grin: Yes, newly elected Mayor Frank Ford has been trying to run us “freaks” out of town for quite some time, but now being a man of power, he thinks this may be the leverage he needed to finally get us out. When owner and father figure Grady Nelson declines the Mayor’s offer to leave, Mayor Ford has his bodyguards kill Grady. I know the Mayor is responsible for our father’s death so I gather Kisses and Karnage and shows up at the Mayor’s home ready to take revenge on him and anyone who stands in our way.
DC: Will Bill Moseley be playing a psycho killer like he does so well?
Grin: Actually, we would love to cast Bill as the Mayor, not the psycho killer role we love to see out of him, but definitely a role he could make his own. It is not official, but the other clowns and I have reached out to him about a role in the film. That’s where our budget will come in handy. He’s a little harder to kidnap than J.P.!
DC: Can you talk about the rest of the cast?
Grin: Besides Grin, Kisses, and Karnage the film has yet to be cast. We obviously put together our dream cast, but that would depend on our budget. There are plenty of roles to fill, and we want to make sure we cast the very best, so auditions are going to be a big part of the casting. We also have a very talented behind-the-scenes team who have come on board to help save J.P., including Drew Pizzo, the director of photography who will create the horrific atmosphere we are looking for, as well as Tom Smith and Matthew Scroger from Sick and Twisted FX, who will be handling all the “sick and twisted” killings we have in store.
DC: Like any good horror movie, this will be nasty, but is comedy also a big part? It does feature clowns after all?
Grin: Yes, there are some comedic moments written in the film, mostly through characters and dialogue, but we’re not here to entertain a birthday party… get ready for some straight-up hardcore revenge.
DC: What stage of development are you in?
Grin: We are still in the early stages, the script is undergoing a second draft, our campaign is set for 60 days, and by that time we should have our final draft and looking to cast. In the meantime we are scouting locations and going over our kill scenes with our FX team over at SickĀ and Twisted FX.
DC: After the film is made, will the director be released or forced to make a sequel?
GRIN: We hope that J.P. will be more cooperative and we can become friends; we’d much rather him shoot a sequel under better circumstances. Kidnapping isn’t just hard on the victim, it’s a lot of work for us too!
