James Wan to Produce New Mortal Kombat Film

James Wan is on top of the world right now. Having directed Furious 7, the fifth highest grossing film in the world, he more or less has free rein over what he makes next.

His next directorial project will be Aquaman, although he is also planning to produce a new Mortal Kombat film for New Line, as The Tracking Board reports.

Details are mostly scarce other than that it will feature a script from the writer of the web series Mortal Komat: Legacy, Oren Uziel, and The Expendables writer Dave Callaham about a normal guy who somehow finds himself caught up in the titular Mortal Kombat tournament that will decide the fate of both our world and the mythical Earthrealm.

Hopefully the new film will embrace the darker side of the series, such as the brutality and gore, and not be more family-friendly in tone like the ’90s films. At least Paul WS Anderson won’t be involved.
