Nathan Baelsel Talks Behind the Mask Sequel (click for larger image)Don’t know about other folks, but I LOVED the 2006 horror spoof, Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (spoof isn’t the best word choice, but a movie like BTM really is unclassifiable). Now there is word that our favorite homicidal maniac may be returning so Dread Central checked up with Leslie’s alter-ego to see if he might offer some information.

From actor Nathan Baesel himself, word is — “We’ve been talking for about a year, and Scott [Glosserman] and David [Stieve] have fleshed out a pretty workable frame. Scott called about a month ago cracking himself up while relating the newest machinations he and Stieve had come up with. I have to say it feels like it’s going in a direction that appeals to a lot of what I was wanting to do with Leslie and satisfies a lot of the conceptual elements that turn Scotty on while addressing Stieve’s desires to have a story light enough for entertaining popcorn fare while hitting genre fans where it counts. Scott feels the DVD sales have been strong enough to entice backers to a production that’s more expansive, expensive, and satisfying than BTM. We’ll see…

We SHALL see and hope for a return of Leslie, Doc Halloran (Robert Englund), Eugene, the retired serial killer (Scott Wilson) and his lovely survivor girl wife, Jamie (Bridgett Newton), as well as the documentary crew which found themselves in the center of what became an all-too-real killing spree: Taylor (Angela Goethals), Doug (Ben Pace), and Todd (Britain Spellings). Or will Glosserman and company go an entirely new route within the small, sleepy town of Glen Echo? I just want to see Eugene cutting vegetables and serving up barbecue again …
