Raven Banner Snags Canadian Distro Rights for The Editor

Astron-6 have created some of the most entertaining slices of offbeat cinema in the past few years. Although Manborg wasn’t the low-budget masterpiece I’d hoped it would be, Father’s Day remains one of my favorite modern exploitation flicks. And if you missed their segment in ABCs of Death 2 — namely, W Is for Wish — you’d better fix that problem as soon as possible.
Fortunately for Astron-6’s Canadian fans, their take on the giallo genre, The Editor, will get a proper release in the country later this year. Raven Banner recently acquired distribution rights to the movie, which will hit retail shelves alongside Shout! Factory’s Stateside edition this fall.
Filmmakers Matthew Kennedy and Adam Brooks were understandably excited about Raven Banner’s recent acquisition, saying, “We’re happy to bring our absurdist masterwork home to Canada with Raven Banner, who will no doubt find a way to deliver our pulsating videocasette of a film into your eager tape-holes.” Well said, gentlemen. Well said indeed.
If you’ve never heard of The Editor, then we’d better hook you up with a synopsis. Here’s how the folks at Raven Banner describe Astron-6’s giallo-inspired thriller.
A hilarious send-up of classic giallo cinema, THE EDITOR spins the twisted tale of a once-prolific film editor who becomes the prime suspect in a series of murders haunting a seedy 1970s film studio. Rey Ciso was once the greatest editor the world had ever seen. Since a horrific accident left him with four wooden fingers on his right hand, he’s had to resort to cutting pulp films and trash pictures. When the lead actors from the film he’s been editing turn up murdered at the studio, Rey is fingered as the number one suspect. The bodies continue to pile up in this absurdist giallo-thriller as Rey struggles to prove his innocence and learns the sinister truth lurking behind the scenes.
Shout! Factory will release The Editor in the US on September 5, 2015, through their Scream Factory series. Chances are Raven Banner will drop their edition of the flick around the same time.
