Brazilian Horror Flick Mosquitoid Launches B-Movie Flavored Indiegogo Campaign

Knowing that low-budget, horror-oriented B-movies are beloved around the world makes this trash geek extremely happy. With the advent of crowdfunding, making your own grindhouse-flavored masterpiece is easier than ever. While there are certainly downsides to sites like Kickstarter and Indiegogo, I fully believe the positives greatly outweigh the negatives.
Twin brothers André and Marcos de Castro are looking to inject a little Brazilian influence into the low-budget monster movie genre with their upcoming effort Mosquitoid, previously known as The Mosquito Alien. In order to bring this flick to life, the brothers are asking for donations through an Indiegogo campaign, a popular destination for independent filmmakers looking to generate a little cash for their upcoming projects. However, the de Castros are only hoping to scrape together $100,000, which is less than the budget for John Carpenter’s Halloween.
What’s Mosquitoid all about? Here you go.
The film tells the story of a giant mosquito from Planet Endfly, who finds a crack in a black hole in space and comes to Planet Earth. When he comes to Ribeirão Preto, a city that is experiencing an epidemic of the same mosquito, because of the excess of still water, he promotes chaos. His bite is deadly, it’s not like the normal mosquito. His giant stinger kills the person’s immediately, however, its venom takes effect. The dead turn into zombie-mosquitos and attack the city’s population. In the story there are several characters. The mosquito goes through numerous funny situations because of his personalities. Mad scientist, drag queen in the adaptation process, frenzy in sorority, clumsy soldier, sensual colonel, two crazy hippies, space warrior, among others. All this washed down with very black humor, blood and some sensuality.
