Simon BakerThe Slamdance Film Festival wrapped up a few weeks ago, and today we got news of the first theatrical distribution pick-up from the fest so far: Myriad PicturesNot Forgotten starring Simon Baker and Paz Vega.

The thriller was directed by Dror Soref, who co-wrote the script with Tomas Romero, and will be distributed in the US, UK, and Australia by Anchor Bay Films, the new feature film division of Anchor Bay Entertainment. Not Forgotten tells the story of Jack Bishop (Baker), a man with a secret past that is revealed when his daughter is kidnapped. To find her, he enlists the help of the cult La Santa Muerte and returns to his roots in the squalid, seedy barrios of Mexico. La Santa Muerte is a centuries-old mixture of Catholicism and paganism in which devotees pray to the saint known as The Holy Death for revenge and other acts against their enemies. In the twists and turns that follow, Bishop is forced to confront his own demons and the growing suspicions of his wife Amaya (Vega) until the surprise ending.

Anchor Bay Films President Bill Clark had this to say about the acquisition, “We are thrilled to be working with Myriad Pictures and releasing Not Forgotten. Over the past year Simon Baker has established himself as an even bigger star with feature as well as television audiences, and we know they’ll love this film too.” Meanwhile, Myriad reps are attending the European Film Market in Berlin this week and next in order to nail down international distribution rights.

Baker, who appeared in Romero’s Land of the Dead, is indeed riding high these days on the success of CBS’ “The Mentalist”, and I look forward to seeing him return to the big screen. No word yet on a release date, but as soon as we know, so will you!
