Exclusive Dread Pic & Set Visit Preview!
With The Midnight Meat Train and The Book Of Blood already in the can, LA-based company Midnight Picture Show is now turning its attention to the aptly titled “>Dread and has just released this exclusive still from the film!
The latest installment from Clive Barker’s Books Of Blood, Dread is a psychological thriller centering on three college students who study other people’s fears. As the study progresses, one of the students begins to seek salvation from his obsession by exploiting the terrors of his fellow participants.
Directed by Anthony DiBlasi and starring Jackson Rathbone (Twilight), Shaun Evans (Gone) and newcomers Hanne Steen and Laura Donnelly, the film is now in post-production, having completed principal photography in the UK in November.
We caught up with the production on set in Egham, Surrey, on the penultimate day of shooting, where the mood in the camp was buoyant. “I’ve really enjoyed it, it’s like nothing I’ve ever done before,” enthuses Shaun Evans who plays the role of Quaid. “I love horror pictures, so it was brilliant to be pulling an axe out of somebody and blood flying everywhere. I fucking love that shit!”
“We’re having such a good time shooting here, it’s great,” agrees producer Joe Daley who’s been instrumental in bringing Barker’s dark, erotic tales to the big screen. “Matador, whom we’re partners with on this project, are based here so that’s why we’re in the UK. It’s worked out well. The talent pool is amazing, and even though we’re setting Dread in the US, it makes sense that we’re shooting here because that’s where the stories were written. Clive’s from Liverpool, and it just feels we’re bringing it where it should be.”
With virtually the entire shoot taking place at the one location at Runnymede Campus, it’s been the ideal location for Daley and the crew. “Our line producer found it for us, and it’s been a dream because on this 135-acre campus we’ve been able to make the school, the dorms, a strip club, a rock club and the insides of 64 Pilgrim Street,” explains the affable producer. “It’s so self-contained, and with a schedule this tight, you can’t really be moving around all the time, so it’s just made it a hell of a lot easier for all of us to get it done.”
“I couldn’t think of a more fitting place to shoot something like this,” adds Evans as he completes his final scene. “We’ve all been on base so it’s easy to create a little family. We rehearsed in the evenings right through until 12 or 1am, and there’s a really strange quiet vibe around here in the evening, so it’s been perfect.”
Dread will be released later in 2009, and we’ll be bringing you our full exclusive set report on the film very soon!
