Interview with the Cast of Netflix’s Survival Thriller ‘Thrash’ [VIDEO]

Traveling to Miami from New York while a storm rolled in was a fitting way to watch Thrash, Netflix’s latest survival thriller/creature feature directed by Tommy Wirkola (Dead Snow, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Violent Night). As I headed to the premiere with an extra large umbrella tucked in my bag, it was impossible not to think of the film’s premise: When a Category 5 hurricane decimates a coastal town, the storm surge brings devastation, chaos, and something far more frightening—hungry sharks.

Before the screening, I sat down with stars Phoebe Dynevor (Bridgerton, Fair Play), Whitney Peak (Gossip Girl, Hocus Pocus 2), and Djimon Hounsou (Amistad, Gladiator, A Quiet Place) to talk about who they’d trust most in the cast to help them through a situation as anxiety-inducing as surviving a category 5 hurricane while battling sharks (and giving birth).

We also discussed the terrifying realities of climate change and the very real impact it has on the environment and ourselves, a theme that looms large over Thrash. The cast spoke candidly about how the film touches on growing fears about extreme weather and environmental instability, especially after the wildfires that devastated California just last year, and our role in our own devastation. Thrash is now streaming only on Netflix.
