‘Him’ Star Tyriq Withers Talks Pushing Himself Mind, Boy, and Soul For This Film
Tyriq Withers is having a pretty good year. First, he starred in the ensemble for the reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, and now, he’s taking the lead role in Justin Tipping’s professional football horror film, Him. In the film, Withers takes center stage as a young athlete who, after a traumatic head injury, goes to train with his childhood hero in hopes of earning a spot in the professional football league (the name is kept vague for obvious legal reasons). But things aren’t what they seem as Withers’ character discovers something more sinister at hand.
In honor of the film’s home video release, we spoke with Withers about his own deeply personal connection to football, training for the film, and more.
