‘The Trouble With Tessa’ Creators Talk Their New Horror Series

The Trouble With Tessa

We’re living in a golden age of prestige horror television, with shows like From, The Institute, and Yellowjackets regularly invading our TVs and delivering horrifying doses of delicious genre programming. But, don’t just look to the big streamers for incredible episodic storytelling. You might just miss out on a hidden gem, like Dennis Cahlo and Bethany Watson’s six-episode series, The Trouble With Tessa, which is streaming now on Screambox.

Read the full synopsis for the series:

After Tessa Fowler’s skyrocketing career implodes overnight, the disgraced documentarian escapes to a small, idyllic mountain town called Lowery. It seems like the perfect place to hide: Lowery doesn’t allow cellphones, doesn’t have internet, and no one knows about Tessa’s past.

Tessa’s determination to leave their investigative days behind them disappears, however, when they find a mysterious box of recordings in their rental home’s dingy basement. At first, the recordings seem to be nothing more than security footage.

Cahlo and Watson created and directed the series, and co-wrote the script with Will Rogers based on a story by the trio and Tony Walsh. Cahlo also filmed and edited the series, making this a true indie horror effort. The result is something deeply unsettling that’ll have you hanging off the edge of your seat.

We sat down with Cahlo and Watson to discuss tackling a low-budget horror TV series, finding the perfect Tessa, and incorporating found footage into their horror story.
