Queer Screams Festival Director JT Seaton Talks The Power of Queer Horror

I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again, now is a golden age for queer horror. And no one knows that better than JT Seaton, the festival director for Queer Screams, an LGBTIA+ genre film festival held annually in Portland, Oregon. Taking place this year from August 1 to August 3, 2025, the festival is a place for queer artists to flock to share their incredible, beautiful, and disgusting art.
The festival’s vision, as stated by their website, is:
To support LGTBQ+ Artists and Creators of queer stories by providing a platform, via a live film festival event, to reach a larger audience. To present opportunities to connect with LGBTQ+ horror/sci-fi/fantasy/thriller fans through film screenings, as well as personal interaction. To contribute to an ever-growing community of genre film lovers by engaging in “the conversation” and the pursuit of positive queer representation in media. To have a “gay old time”.
We spoke with Seaton about this year’s incredible programming, getting to hang out with Don Mancini, and why we need queer horror now more than ever.
