‘Stomach It’ Director Peter Klausner On His Stomach-Churning Body Horror

Peter Klausner loves body horror. Ever since he watched the films of David Cronenberg, he’s loved what you can do both visually and emotionally with body horror, making the viewer feel something they can’t quite describe. He channelled that love into his short film, Stomach It, which has made a splash on the festival circuit.
The film follows a crime scene cleaner who, while struggling to emotionally detach from the deceased, believes a monstrous presence is toying with him.
We spoke with Klausner about how his team crafted the short film’s gnarly practical effects through chemistry experiments, fake bile, and lots of trial and error. We also dig into his research process around the world of crime scene clean-up to create a more authentic (and disturbing) horror experience.
