‘Hellraiser: Revival’ Devs Reveal How Clive Barker Helped Protect the Game’s “Soul”

Hellraiser: Revival

One of the biggest questions surrounding Hellraiser: Revival has been just how involved Clive Barker has been with the upcoming video game. According to a new interview with the Hellraiser Discord Group, the legendary horror creator has been deeply involved since the earliest stages of development, helping shape the game while ensuring it remained faithful to the themes and mythology that made Hellraiser a horror classic.

“Clive was heavily involved in our process early on, which was integral to maintaining his vision,” said Saber Games. “He made certain that we understood the soul of the work. Once we had the spirit of the story, he empowered us to make the idea into something you play. At that point, he began reviewing gameplay and narrative scripts periodically, offering feedback and ensuring we stayed true to Hellraiser‘s soul.”

That hands-on approach continued throughout development. “Clive is an imaginative powerhouse; he’s given us a lot of input on the game,” Saber Games continued. “He was involved every step of the way and made sure we understood his vision so we could better translate it into the game.”

The developers also explained that authenticity was their guiding principle from the very beginning. Rather than pulling inspiration from across the franchise, the team intentionally focused on Barker’s novella The Hellbound Heart along with the first two Hellraiser films, blocking out later influences in an effort to capture what made the series resonate in the first place.

It was incredibly dear to us to stay true to the Hellraiser franchise when doing this work,” narrative director Anthony de Fault previously explained.

The interview also sheds light on Doug Bradley’s return as Pinhead. According to Saber Games, Bradley wasn’t simply brought back to record dialogue. Like Barker, he served as an important creative collaborator, helping the team ensure the Hell Priest remained authentic to the character fans have known for decades.

Between Barker’s direct involvement, Bradley’s creative input, and the team’s commitment to the franchise’s original mythology, Hellraiser: Revival appears to be taking every possible step to honor one of horror’s most iconic creations.

The suffering looks nothing short of legendary in the newest trailer for Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival, which also announces the game’s official release date: October 8, 2026.
