The Brits over at Empire Magazine managed to get their hands on the first production still from Cirque du Freak, the novel adaptation helmed by Paul Weitz and starring John C. Reilly, among others.

Dafoe Joins Cirque du Freak
I have to give it to the makers of Cirque du Freak; they sure managed to get an amazing cast to work with. Since the movie, an adaptation of the books by Darren Shan, was announced, names like John C. Reilly and Salma Hayek have jumped on board.

Composing for Whiteout, Freak & Mambo
A batch of horror movies we’ve not heard much about lately have recently acquired composers; instead of writing one story after another about them, I thought it’d make sense to give ‘em to you all at once. That's how much I care, you see.

Woodruff Joins Cirque du Freak!
Our man Andrew Kasch was just at an Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem DVD event that was also attended by, among others, effects man Tom Woodruff (Tremors, Alien 3, Wolf, Starship Troopers, etc.). Tom gave the crowd in attendance the good news that one of his next gigs would be Paul Weitz’s Cirque du Freak!

Another big name has joined the cast of the upcoming adaptation of the YA book series Cirque du Freak, adding to a list that includes Salma Hayek and John C. Reilly. This time out it’s Batman Begins/Last Samurai star Ken Watanabe according to Variety.

Hayek Signs Up for Freak
The cast for Cirque du Freak, the Paul Weitz-helmed adaptation of Darren Shan’s YA book series, just got a whole lot sexier. Not that I have anything against John C. Reilly (“Reily Vamps Out” – November 2007); Salma Hayek is just much easier on the eyes.

Reilly Vamps Out
Though I seriously doubt it’s anything close to what one would call hardcore horror, John C. Reilly as a vampire is not the kind of thing we get to report on every day, so how could we pass this up:?
