Save for a few notable exceptions, sharks have mostly been the subject of Syfy-style fare in recent years, which is a total bummer. Once genuinely terrifying movie monsters, they’ve become laughable computer-generated jokes, though Into the Deep hopes to change that.

Screen Daily reports today that Gerald Rascionato’s debut feature has scored a raft of sales at Berlin’s European Film Market. Sydney-based Odin’s Eye Entertainment sold the shark attack thriller to the UK (Metrodome), Japan (New Select), Middle East (Phonencia), and India (Pictureworks).

Written by Rascionato and Stephen Lister, the film stars Megan Peta Hill, Joel Hogan, Josh Potthoff, and Pete Valley.

Synopsis:
Three American college students head Down Under to capture great white sharks on film. But when a freak wave capsizes their boat mid cage dive, they are left fighting for and against each other in the world’s most dangerous shark-infested waters.
