Two brand spankin’ new genre flicks hit VOD outlets today, and since it is our duty to keep you informed of such things, we are here to do just that. So read on for all the details about this weekend’s VOD offerings!

First up, Indican Pictures released The Cabining into limited theaters and onto VOD today, which is a horror-comedy that stars legendary “that guy” Richard Riehle (Hatchet).

Directed by Steven Kopera, the film centers on Todd and Bruce, two struggling writers who get one last shot at success thanks to Todd’s wealthy uncle, Sarge, who gives them two weeks to impress him. With the deadline looming and no fresh ideas, the pair head to Shangri-La, a serene artist’s retreat, with the hope that the peace and company of fellow artists will inspire greatness… or, failing greatness, at least a fling with a leggy French sculptor.

The retreat proves to be anything but serene, however, as the artists start dying off one by one, and soon these two are fighting for their very own lives!

Also on VOD and in select theaters today is The Phoenix Project, which is of the sci-fi/horror variety. Written and directed by Tyler Graham Pavey, the flick stars Corey Rieger, Andrew Simpson, David Pesta, and Orson Ossman.

In the film, four young scientists work to craft a machine to reanimate deceased organisms. As the project develops, the machine exceeds their wildest expectations, creating boundless possibilities that challenge the very nature of human existence. However, success with this experiment comes at a price, as ulterior motives and reckless abandon lead to consequences none of them could predict. As their time and resources fade, this team of visionary scientists must face the realities of the task they have set out for themselves, bringing the dead back to life.
