Exclusive - Angelica Bridges Talks Axeman 2: OverkillWe told you about Joston Theney’s sequel to his flick Axeman, entitled Axeman 2: Overkill, a couple of weeks back; and right now we have the first ever interview with star Angelica Bridges (“Baywatch,” “The Bold and The Beautiful”).

Dread Central: The producers, Joston “El Rey” Theney and Dr. Christopher Otiko, have been a little tight-lipped about the script. What can you tell us about the film?

Angelica Bridges: I don’t want to give out too many of the gory details, but I will say they are going for more horror, if that’s even possible. They will be taking the “killings” in the film to a whole other level of profoundness! People that usually don’t ever cover their eyes while watching horror films will probably be starting a new trend after watching this film.

DC: You play “Dungie” in the film. What can you tell us about the character? How does she fit into this world?

AB: My character is just a complete badass. She has military background, and with that also comes her love for large firearms. She fits into the crazy mix by being greedy as some of the other characters are in the film, but in different ways. You will have to watch and see how her quest pans out.

DC: The character seems to be quite a departure from previous characters you’ve played. Do you think your personality is closer to her or other characters you’ve portrayed in the past? What similarities do you share with the character? And if she isn’t closest to your personality, which character from you previous work have been?

AB: What most people don’t know about me is that I love playing strong, powerful characters. I think being a badass character fits my personality more than anything else. My two other favorite roles I have portrayed were also tough females. The first was “Omegis,” an evil sorceress with split personalities on the TV series “Mortal Kombat,” and the other was “Red Sonja” on the “Conan the Barbarian” TV series. I also enjoy firearms. I got my first taste of firing an automatic rifle on the set of the movie Mystery Men. The stunt and firearms coordinator took me into the back of an enclosed semi truck, handed me a rifle, and said, “Let her rip!” I tried a few rounds and then was sent straight to the set to shoot. I was hooked after that experience. I know I will have some fun with Dugie’s array of artillery in the new film!

DC: We didn’t find any horror in your resume. Have you worked in horror before? Are you a little fearful walking in?

AB: I have done one horror film before called The Perfect Woman, which was shot in a castle in the UK. I had a fight scene in that film and broke my nose. The whole crew just stopped once the blood started splattering out of my nose and dripping all over my co-star. I was upset because they stopped rolling when the fight got real and blood started flowing! They were so worried about me and I wanted to keep rolling because it was so authentic and I was in the moment. It was an amazing two weeks of my life so I think I will fit in just fine with the Axeman clan!

DC: The original Axeman was pretty dark yet funny, and the minds behind it have said the sequel is going to be darker, grittier, and bloodier. You’ve read the script – what’s your take on it? What are we in store for?

AB: Like I mentioned earlier, be prepared for horror on a whole other level. Death will feel like a 4D experience with how far they are going to take the scenarios.

DC: What can tell us about working with Joston “El Rey” Theney so far? Have you guys gotten into the collaborative process?

AB: Josten is amazing and obviously has a brilliant, twisted mind for horror. He knows what he’s doing and his veteran-ship of horror shows tremendously. Everyone that has ever worked with him has an incredible experience and can’t wait for the sequel to work with him again.

DC: You’re known from your “Baywatch” fame. Do we get a “Baywatch” run in this film?

AB: If there is any type of “Baywatch” run in this film, it will be a much dirtier, grittier run. I won’t be looking so “cute” this time. I also will be carrying a big gun instead of a red can. Big difference!

DC Any future projects beyond Axeman 2: Overkill that you’re working on? What can you tell us?

AB: I just had the amazing opportunity of co-starring in Pharrell’s new video, “Come Get it Babe.” It is supposed to drop in a week. There haven’t been too many times that I can say, “Wow, today I hung out at a swimming pool for three hours while Pharrell lip synced, sang, and flirted with me and I had to brush him off and act disinterested!” Only in Hollywood. LOL

I just shot a starring role in a comedy pilot titled “The Rent,” which is a modern day “Three’s Company” set in an chic dysfunctional apartment in Beverly Hills. It’s hilarious, and all fingers and toes crossed it will get picked up!

DC: Any website, social media, or event of yourself, the film, or future projects you’d like to share?

AB: I can be followed on Instagram for all of my updates and new projects.

Axeman 2: Overkill Details
On the heels of successful early results from the May 5th release of Axeman, filmmaker Joston “El Rey” Theney and co-writer/executive producer Dr. Christopher Otiko of Blood Red Films announce plans for the sequel, Axeman 2: Overkill.

Officially in pre-production as of Thursday, July 2nd, cameras roll in early October on location in Frazier Park, CA. The upcoming sequel stars former 3-time World Champion (WWE “Adam Bomb / WCW “Wrath”) Bryan Clark as the titular character, former “Baywatch” and “The Bold and the Beautiful” star Angelica Bridges, recent “Big Brother” reality contest winner Rachel Reilly, and Farrah Abraham in her feature film debut.

Axeman alum Arielle Brachfeld returns to the retro 80s-inspired slasher as plucky, reluctant hero Deputy Darlene Whitfield, as does Theney, who reprises his role as the affable, death-defying Darren Cole. Newcomers to the slasher series are Jacqui Holland (My Best Friend’s Girl), Alisha Seaton (The Fourth Kind), Maria Olsen (Paranormal Activity 3), Monique Parent (Profane Exhibit), and Hannah Landberg (Rabid Love).

When asked for details on the sequel, writer/director Joston Theney replied, “Well, it’s certainly a darker, grittier film than the first. We learned a lot from our first go ‘round. There’s no CGI blood splatters. No short cuts in SFX. No deeply, intertwined love trysts. This is a bloodletting! This film WILL live up to it’s name – Overkill. Guaranteed.”

The sequel will see an initial theatrical release in early 2015.

Get ready for another vacation to dismember with Axeman 2: Overkill.
