Mary Shelley's Monster Comes to Life with Casting News; Taissa Farmiga on BoardCountless movies over the years have used Mary Shelley’s iconic novel Frankenstein as inspiration, and countless more are no doubt headed our way. But the upcoming Mary Shelley’s Monster takes an admirably different direction, telling the tale of the woman behind the story.

Per Deadline, “Game of Thrones” star Sophie Turner has signed on to portray Mary Shelley in the new take on the life and lore of the authoress, playing opposite Jeremy Irvine’s Percy Shelley.

Also on board is Taissa Farmiga (pictured), most known to horror fans for “American Horror Story,” who has been cast to play Mary’s stepsister, Claire Clairmont.

Scripted by Deborah Baxtrom, Mary Shelley’s Monster tracks the young writer as she writes her seminal novel and is drawn into a Faustian bargain with her own “monster” of an alter ego, who offers literary fame at a desperate personal cost.

Our film is not a period drama,” said producer Rose Ganguzza. “It is a story of youth that transcends time, a Gothic romance, a love triangle that involves a dark passenger; and we are tremendously excited to have such an exciting cast on board this wonderful project.”

Filming is slated to begin later this year in the UK and Malta with Coky Giedroyc (“Penny Dreadful”) directing. Producers are Ganguzza, J Todd Harris, Damon Lane, and Marc Marcum.
