Sharlto Copley and Michelle Forbes Have Powers! More casting news has arrived for the Sony PlayStation Network adaptation of the Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming-created comic series Powers as Sharlto Copley and Michelle Forbes have signed on for active duty!

Variety reports that Copley (pictured) will play Christian Walker, described as a dapper and charismatic character with a darkness and violence right at the surface but with a sense of buried integrity. Walker has the dissolute air of a faded rock star and the body of a battered heavyweight.

Once possessed of super-powers, Walker lost those abilities in a battle with a super-human mass killer. A faded hero, he’s now a detective who works with law enforcement, using his singular expertise to investigate crimes in the Powers community.

Forbes (“True Blood,” “The Killing”) will play Retro Girl, the undisputed superstar of the Powers community. An icon of justice, selflessness, and business acumen, she has a cool, hard exterior with a fire right below the surface. Her willingness to put herself at risk for the good of others is matched only by her ability to manage her globe-spanning personal brand.

David Slade will direct the first two episodes of the live-action series from scripts by Charlie Huston. Susan Heyward (“The Following”) has been tapped as the female lead with Max Fowler (“The Killing”) and Adam Godley (“Breaking Bad”) also cast.

Combining the genres of superhero fantasy, crime noir, and police procedural, “Powers,” produced by Sony Pictures TV, is set in a world full of people with superhuman abilities and where all of those powers are just another catalyst for mayhem and murder.

It follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker (Copley) and Deena Pilgrim (Heyward), who are assigned to protect humans like us and investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as “Powers,” who glide through the sky on lightning bolts and fire and who clash above cities in epic battle, oblivious to the mortals below. Pilgrim is described as equal parts beauty and sarcasm, a wunderkind detective with edgy style.

Fowler will play Krispin Stockley, the son of Walker’s murdered partner, a disaffected teen still struggling with the death of his father at the hand of a rogue Power, which starts him on a dark journey that will warp him both physically and emotionally. Godley will play Captain Cross, the solid steel in a frail frame captain of the Powers division, bookish, respectful, and loyal; but he may harbor a secret agenda that could lead his beloved department into a full-fledged conspiracy.

Bendis, Oeming, and Michael Dinner executive produce “Powers” with Huston and Remi Aubuchon (“Falling Skies”) along with Circle of Confusion’s David Engel, David Alpert, and Lawrence Mattis. Huston and Aubuchon will serve as showrunners. SPT will sell internationally.
