Release Date Shuffle: Sinister Steals The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D's October Slot

Time to get out your pencils and erasers again, kids. Two films that are high on our radar are doing that ol' release date shuffle with Sinister taking over The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D's newly vacated October 5th slot.
Since it's been awhile since we've heard anything new about The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, it's not a huge surprise it's been pushed back a few months from its original October 2012 date to January 4, 2013. All the better to let things get even more rotten in the state of Texas! Besides, January is proving to be almost as popular for horror films as October anyway.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper's original film, is being directed by John Luessenhop from a screenplay by Adam Marcus, Debra Sullivan and Kirsten Elms. Dan Yeager, John Dugan, Bill Moseley, Alexandra Daddario, Sue Rock, Tania Raymonde, Scott Eastwood, Gunnar Hansen, Tobe Hooper, Paul Rae, Keram Malicki-Sánchez, Ritchie Montgomery, Trey Songz, Marilyn Burns, Shaun Sipos, Thom Barry and Richard Riehle star.
Sinister stars James Ransone, Ethan Hawke, and Juliet Rylance and is based on a script by director Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill. Hawke plays a journalist who travels with his family around the country to investigate gruesome murders he turns into books. After he moves his family into a house where another family was murdered, the journo discovers found footage that unveils horrifying clues beyond what caused the original tragedy.

like Paranormal Activity 4 Terminal! at least with TCM3D we would "hopefully" get a fun,brainless,gory slasher film in theaters near Halloween instead of another found footage film about the invisible man going "boo" for 90 fucking minutes

That's why horror gets no respect. Too many fans want brainless. I want a smart series of horror movies. Hence why I go to the Paranormal Activity movies. Like I said, I'd rather have SOME good horror movies instead of a lot of bad horror movies. Fuck brainless, I want something that challenges me.

I'm with Terminal on this one. While a brainless horror film is fine from time to time, it's those kind of films that killed the genre's credibility. Besides, does anyone actually think this new TCM movie will be any good? It's coming out in January; not exactly a good sign of confidence.

Ermmm...wasn't Hooper's own TCM2 a direct sequel? WTH? I'm sorry...WTFH?
And SINISTER...sounded good until the term "found footage" came up. Then, I found a part my my brain wanting to go to sleep...

Hooper's TCM2 was an inspired, original take on the material by a director in his creative prime.

While I am quite baffled as to why TCM3D would be moved out of prime horror time into January; on the whole genre pictures have proven quite lucrative in that month. Might be the massive counter-programing from a month of gumdrops and candy-canes.
But; it's original date was just after Frankenweenie and Taken 2; so it'd have to struggle to break free. It's new date though puts it a week before Hansel & Gretel.
I want to see more horror in October; but whatever helps make the films successful so more genre films will get produced...I'm cool with.

:( FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! can we have 1 damn FUN horror film in theaters this freaking October!!!! and Paranormal Activity 4 doesn't fucking count! I never cared for those films and i've never been at least bit frightened by them, and it seems that like the Saw films before, Paranormal Activity films are scaring away the studios from releasing their horror films in October! FUCK! FUCK! FUCK! im got tired of only seeing Saw films in theaters every fucking October and now im getting Tired of only seeing Paranormal Activity movies in Theaters every October now! FUCK YOU DREAMWORKS!!!!!

I can't argue with you, the Saw films got pretty monotonous and Paranormal Activity is alright but hugely overrated.
I think you'll have to supply your own movies for Halloween this year. Happily the last series of festival reviews on DC showed that there are a lot of films headed towards Blu/DVD and VOD that are worth watching.

Vanvance1 I already watch all the Dvd and Vod October Releases every year (GraveEncounters was perfect to watch this past October) but theres a difference between watching a horror movie at home near Halloween and Watching a horror movie on the big screen near Halloween
