Make a Date with Shark Night on DVD and Blu-ray

When I wrote my review of Shark Night 3D, I described it as a movie that would probably play much better on DVD than in theaters because it really didn’t offer up enough to justify paying premium 3D theatrical prices. We’ll all get to find out if I’m right when it surfaces onto DVD and Blu-ray just after the New Year.

Snakes on a Plane and The Final Destination director David R. Ellis’ sharkploitation flick went belly up at the box office when the PG-13 nature gone amok flick became one of the numerous box office horror flops of the August/September period of 2011.

Details are still preliminary, but 20th Century Fox has announced a January 3rd DVD and Blu-ray (with digital copy) release date. No word yet as to what extras we can expect or if a 3D Blu-ray version will be released or if a more R-rated/unrated version of the somewhat toothless theatrical version will be made available.

Expect more specific details to surface any day now!

This was one of the most disappointing films of the summer. While the film was PG13; it was certainly bloodier than I thought, but not as over the top as it should have been. The premise was so over the top, so ridiculous; it needed to be that kind of tone.

I think it was done in the tone of 'Drive Angry'; I think it would have reached an amazing level of awesome. Problem was though, I felt the film took itself far too seriously to be enjoyed all that much.
