Pride and Prejudice and Zombies Start Pushed Backed; Still Unable to Find Its Elizabeth

When last we reported on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Zombieland's Emma Stone had been offered the lead role in the film, but apparently things didn't work out as planned because now she's out of the running and the production start date has been moved to early 2012.

According to Variety the pushback came about because the Craig Gillespie-helmed flick has found difficulty casting its female lead, which has already seen several actresses aside from Stone pass on the part. But don't worry; the Lionsgate project is far from dead, just delayed a bit.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will be directed by Gillespie from a script by his Fright Night redux cohort Marti Noxon based on the novel by Seth Grahame-Smith. It centers on Elizabeth Bennet's quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a virus that turns the dead into zombies. The story's set in an alternate version of 19th Century England that features deadly ancestors roaming the countryside.

Please keep the updates coming on this-I really enjoyed the book (Jane Slayer also!), and hope this turns out well. It is so easy to imagine Victorian England with zombies. I like to believe that the Black Plague was actually an attack of zombies!!!
