In news that makes me sick to my stomach (mainly because I owned this), the original 1979 VHS tape of John Carpenter’s classic Halloween from Media Home Entertainment has sold for an astronomical $13,220 (plus $3.77 shipping of course).
The sale ended on May 31st, and the item’s description follows… “This is a Halloween MEDIA VHS tape. What you see in the picture (below) is what you get if you decide to bid and win it.”
Bidding started at $20.99, lasted seven days and garnered 52 bids in total among three different bidders, one of whom bid it up to $200.00 by himself, followed by another user who brought the bid up to an uncontested $1,000.00. Suspicious? Yeah, the bidding history on the item seems a little fishy, that’s for sure.
Halloween stars Donald Pleasence, Jamie Lee Curtis, Nancy Kyes, P.J. Soles and Charles Cyphers and tells the tale of “a psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood who escapes on a mindless rampage while his doctor chases him through the streets.”
