DVD and Blu-Ray Releases: November 9th - Antichrist Black Ops Hunting To Kill
Wow! This is one of the lightest weeks in recent memory for horror title releases on DVD and Blu-ray. But that's fine because after the rush in October, we are still trying to catch up on watching all of those flicks.
This week we have the very controversial and disturbing Antichrist from Lars von Trier, which spawned a NSFW Motion Picture Purgatory from Rick Trembles. Stephen King's new novel and Call of Duty's new edition, Black Ops (with Zombie mode), also drop, and Steve Austin joins the fray along with Tremors' inevitable Blu-ray release.
In this graphic psychodrama, a grief-stricken man and woman retreat to a cabin deep in the woods after the accidental death of their infant son, only to find terror and violence at the hands of nature and, ultimately, each other. But this most confrontational work yet from one of contemporary cinema’s most controversial artists is no mere provocation. It is a visually sublime, emotionally ravaging journey to the darkest corners of the possessed human mind; a disturbing battle of the sexes that pits rational psychology against age-old superstition; and a profoundly effective horror film. Antichrist (review) stars Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg.
A collection of four novellas: "1922" - The story opens with the confession of Wilfred James to the murder of his wife, Arlette, following their move to Hemingford, Nebraska, onto land willed to Arlette by her father. "Big Driver" - Mystery writer Tess has been supplementing her writing income for years by doing speaking engagements with no problems. But following a last-minute invitation to a book club 60 miles away, she takes a shortcut home with dire consequences. "Fair Extension" - Harry Streeter, who is suffering from cancer, decides to make a deal with the devil, but as always, there is a price to pay. "A Good Marriage" - Darcy Anderson learns more about her husband of over twenty years than she would have liked to know when she stumbles literally upon a box under a worktable in their garage. Read an Excerpt from "A Good Marriage".

When Jim's teenage daughter is kidnapped, he's forced to lead a band of ruthless killers into the wilderness to retrieve their share of a missing heist score. In order to rescue his daughter, Jim must use his unique brand of survival skills to outsmart the kidnappers before it's too late. HUNT TO KILL (review) is an action packed adrenaline rush about a man operating on his most primal instincts to save the one thing he's willing to die for - his daughter. The film stars Steve Austin (interview), Eric Roberts, and Gary Daniels.
Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward are a pair of small-town handymen living in a small desert community, who stumble upon several difficult-to-explain phenomena, including a couple of people who've died under extremely strange (and, in one instance, very grisly) circumstances. Eventually, they and a handful of their neighbors find the cause: gigantic prehistoric worm-like creatures that streak under the desert the way fish swim through oceans, reaching up and grabbing anything they need for food. Cut off from the outside world, they have to figure out how to get across the desert alive while these creatures -- that are smart as well as fast -- close in on them, stalking them like monster sharks. Tremors also stars Finn Carter, Michael Gross, Reba McEntire, and Victor Wong.

After receiving a mysterious gift from her dying grandmother, Claire takes her new boyfriend home to meet her family, who live on an isolated property in the country. The family reunion begins well, but Claire becomes increasingly uneasy with her grandmother's medicated mumblings about the banshee coming for her during the night. Later that night the family members are awoken by piercing shrieks, and Claire's worst fears become a waking nightmare as the Screaming Banshee and her army of undead return to unleash blood-soaked fury on them all. The film stars Renee Willner, Bridget Neval, Dawn Klingberg, Taryn Eva, and Danny Alder.
When a group of transgendered women are violently beaten and left for dead, the violated vixens turn deadly divas in this hilariously campy homage to the exploitation films of the '70s and '80s ("Transploitation," anyone?). Loaded with bodacious bods and extreme violence, this revenge fantasy proves that it takes more than balls to get even. Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives stars Krystal Summers, Willam Belli, and Kelexis Davenport.

Welcome to Westworld, where nothing can go wrong...go wrong...go wrong....Writer/director Michael Crichton has concocted a futuristic "Disneyland for adults", a remote resort island where, for a hefty fee, one can indulge in one's wildest fantasies. Businessmen James Brolin and Richard Benjamin are just crazy about the old west, thus they head to the section of Westworld populated by robot desperadoes, robot lawmen, robot dance-hall gals, and the like. Benjamin's first inkling that something is amiss occurs when, during a mock showdown with robot gunslinger Yul Brynner, Brolin is shot and killed for real.
