Jeremy Renner in Talks to Play Snake Plissken in Escape from New York Redux

Jeremy RennerEver since director Breck Eisner's remake of Escape from New York was mentioned, the one question instantly on everyone's mind was who in the world could possibly fill Kurt Russell's shoes as the new Snake Plissken?

Several huge names were tossed about, but now it looks as if one actor is really close to signing on board for the role.

According to Bloody Disgusting Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) is in final talks to land the lead role. Honestly? Renner has some serious chops. This might actually be able to work. We'll let you know more as it comes.

John Carpenter's classic 1981 post-apocalyptic thriller followed antihero Snake Plissken (played by Kurt Russell) as he tries to save the President in gang-ruled Manhattan. New Line Cinema's new spin follows along the lines of the original in which Plissken -- an iconic soldier-turned-criminal -- is given 24 hours to find the President following the crash of Air Force One.

What the hell happened to Gerald Butler playing Snake?

Well...anyone that knows me knows, Escape from New York is my all-time favorite movie. What might actually come as a surprise is I'm looking forward to this remake, and I HATE remakes. Why? Why not. Fuck it. Nothing could ever disappoint me more than Escape from LA, so bring it on. Carpenter and Russell will never do another film, so best case, it's great and the awesome character of Snake lives on and spawns more sequels. Worst case, it sucks balls like F13, Halloween, Clash of the Titans, Nightmare on Elm St, etc, and I just pretend it doesn't exist.

I vote for Kurt Russell who I think would be a perfect snake.

When Kurt is dead we can discuss his replacement.

I wasn't really with this at first, but now I have some interest. Renner in my opinion could work and make it interesting/entertaining.

Whole-heartedly agree...After The Hurt Locker, 28 Weeks Later, and yes, even SWAT, Renner has the ability and the potential to make a kick-ass Snake.

I have to disagree. Having seen him in The Hurt Locker, I think he could be a fantastic Snake.
