San Diego Comic-Con 2010: Early Art - Battle: Los Angeles

Texas Chainsaw: The Beginning director Jonathan Liebesman's new film, Battle: Los Angeles, is getting some love at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, and we have an early look at the artwork.

The film follows a group of Marines as they go head-to-head with an alien invasion on the streets of LA. What’s interesting is how Liebsman landed himself the job; the South African helmer went out and shot sequences in and around LA and Santa Monica, then created his own vision of the alien invasion using post-production CG. Apparently this vision impressed producer Neal Moritz and Columbia enough to grant him the gig.

In the film Aaron Eckhart plays a Marine whose platoon battles an alien invasion on the streets of LA. Co-starring are Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan, and Lucas Till.

Check out the artwork below. Look for the film in theatres March 11th from Columbia Pictures.

NEXT STORY

Spielbergo's take on WAR OF THE WORLDS was a cool addition in the alien invasion genre. Although the crap that received seemed mostly due the off screen antics of Tom Cruise, who people were looking for an excuse to tear down. Also I'd recommend GODZILLA Vs. MONSTER ZERO/INVASION OF THE ASTRO-MONSTERS and THE MYSTERIANS if your wanting to scratch the alien invasion itch. Not to mention the FACULTY.

Liebsman did a fine job (along with that god among men, writer David J. Schow) bringing Leatherface's origin's to life without it being too hamfisted. So I am looking forward to this with some anticipation.

Thumbs up and 'hell yeah!' Schow's short fiction is nothing short of brilliant. He's probably the greatest horror writer working today (though Matheson might be tied).

Liebesman is obviously motivated. I hope this is a strong script and not just a concept with generic story beats.

We haven't had a good invasion film for quite awhile. Not since what,Independance Day? Sure there was District 9 but it was more of a story about the aliens than an us vs. them shoot em up type of deal. I look forward to this. Hope it is good!!
