Quarantine 2: Terminal More than Just a Remake of [REC] 2

Quarantine 2: Terminal More than Just a Remake of [REC] 2Quarantine was a fairly faithful Americanized adaptation of the Spanish horror hit [REC], aside from the drawn out intro at the firehouse and the decision to replace the supernatural element with super rabies. While [REC 2] is currently scaring audiences, the makers of Quarantine 2: Terminal have come up with their own ideas rather than just a sequel to a remake that would also be a remake of a sequel.

Lightning Entertainment wrapped production last week on the follow-up to Quarantine written and directed by John Pogue, the scribe responsible for Ghost Ship, the universally reviled Rollerball remake, and all three movies in The Skulls franchise, and boasting make-up effects courtesy of Rob Hall, whose work can also be seen in the first Quarantine as well as the remake of The Crazies.

Quarantine 2: Terminal tells the horrifying tale of the Dread Central staff as they fight for their lives to escape a building after being sequestered inside with a relentless Puerto Rican horror fan who constantly second guesses their every decision. Or it could just be about people stuck on a passenger plane with rabid zombies running amok.

In QUARANTINE an apartment building in Los Angeles was quarantined by the CDC (Center for Disease Control), trapping the frightened residents inside as a deadly mutant virus turned the residents into rabid killers. QUARANTINE 2: TERMINAL picks up later that night at LAX, as passengers board a flight to Nashville. When a passenger becomes violently ill with a mysterious rabies-like virus, the plane makes an emergency landing at a large metropolitan airport. Jenny (Mercedes Masohn, CBS’s "Three Rivers"), a heroic yet inexperienced flight attendant, takes charge of the safety of her passengers. Relieved when a swarm of heavily equipped emergency vehicles, police units and the CDC arrive, Jenny and the passengers soon discover that they have been quarantined and are now trapped. Desperate to escape, Jenny enlists the help of one of the surviving passengers, a kindergarten teacher, Henry (Josh Cooke, A Fork In The Road, I Love you Man), to devise a plan to survive.

I was a big admirer of REC and the work that the Dowdles did on QUARANTINE, so I was thrilled when given the opportunity to write and direct the sequel”, says director Pogue. “QUARANTINE 2: TERMINAL will expand the mythology behind the first film for fans and ramp up the twisted thrills, building on that universal fear of being trapped on an airplane.”. What mythology? It was a super virulent strain of fast-acting rabies that turned people into rage zombies. Guess we'll have to wait and see what Pogue and company have in mind.

Rest assured we will be hearing much more about this sequel in the near future.

Heh. Funny!! This is good. This gives new interest in this film. I think [REC]2 kicked ass,and I didn't want to see a watered down version here in the U.S,especially with the supernatural content removed. This will be different than [REC]2,almost it's own film, and not a remake. Let's see what direction it goes in, I'm more interested now than I was. It went from a complete dismissal to a ok,we'll see.

I don't know how it COULD be a direct remake of REC 2, since REC 2 explored the possession aspect of REC, and Quarantine abandoned that completely, going for SUUUUUPER RABIIIIEEESSS!!!!

So why is it a surprise that this movie isn't going to be a direct remake of REC 2?

Ha! Well played. I was waiting to see what wisecrack would be tied into our crazy poster on this site. While it's nice that it won't be a retelling of [Rec] 2, I don't know how good it will end up being when they have to come up with something on their own, so a story about Terminal going after Foy and Nomad may be better than what we get!

I miss Terminal's shit disturbing. It may have annoyed the staff but at least it was amusing and helped spur message posting.

As for Quarantine 2, kudos to them for going a different direction. We really don't need another version of Rec 2. I hope this is considerably different.
