Debbie Gibson vs. Tiffany vs. Mega Python vs. Gatoroid

Eighties teen pop princess Debbie Gibson is starring in their Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus. Her perceived Eighties teen pop rival Tiffany recently starred in their Mega Piranha. Now The Asylum is partnering with Syfy to bring the two Eighties pop performers together for one film so that they can do battle on the undercard of a big Mega Python vs. Gatoroid main event.

Gatoroid? What in the blue blazes is a gatoroid? Maybe a hemorrhoid alligators would get?

Artwork for another Asylum mega movie titled Mega Shark vs. Gigantosaurus was spotted at the Cannes Film Festival in May. I wonder if this will replace that one or if The Asylum just sits around now and comes up with wacky ideas for potential “mega” and “vs” movies? I have thus far enjoyed every offering from The Asylum that has begun with the word “mega” so I’m curious to see if they can make it four in a row.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the exclusive news of the “Electric Youth” vs. “I Think We’re Alone Now” mega showdown to coincide with the mega battle between a mega-sized python and what I assume will be a mega-sized gator.

Gibson will play a fanatical animal-rights activist who frees illegally imported exotic snakes from pet stores, sending them into the Everglades, where they grow to mega sizes. Tiffany will play an overzealous park ranger who uses dangerous methods to save endangered alligators.

In the script the pair brawl at a party, then take matters outside into the swamp.

In what I can only deem a surprising turn, Syfy and The Asylum have signed Mary Lambert on to direct this epic showdown in which giant reptiles collide and middle-aged one-time teen pop divas catfight. Lambert, you may remember, most famously directed the Pet Semetary films. Now she can lay claim to be the first female director of a Syfy original creature feature.

The film will really be a female affair as the writer is also a woman, Naomi Selfman (Evil Eyes, 2012: Doomsday).

Mega Python vs. Gatoroid is set to begin shooting this month and will premiere on Syfy next year.

For those that cannot wait until next year for this war of the giant reptiles, just a quick reminder that this Saturday night on Syfy marks the world premiere of Dinocroc vs. Supergator.

In case you’re wondering, the image accompanying this article is an actual photograph of a dead python that tried to swallow a dead alligator discovered in the Florida Everglades. Was this image perhaps the inspiration for the film?

Seriously, though, what the hell is a “Gatoroid”?
