The Walking Dead: Frank Darabont Only Directing the Pilot?

Well, it had to happen sooner or later. Finally the first news has come from the set of "The Walking Dead" that's bummed us out a bit. Still, we have faith that this show is going to rock regardless.
Apparently Frank Darabont will only be directing the pilot episode of the series' first season. We did learn however that if the series gets picked up for renewal beyond the ordered six episodes, we may see him direct a few more. Not to worry though ... Darabont, who is also the writer/executive producer, has confirmed that he will be keeping a watchful eye on set.
We'll keep our ears open as to which directors will be tackling the remaining five episodes. "The Walking Dead" is now filming in Atlanta, Georgia, for its October premiere.
The Walking Dead is based on Robert Kirkman's popular comic series. It chronicles the months and years following a zombie apocalypse. Frank Darabont is the project's writer, sometimes director, and exec producer with Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert also exec producing. KNB will be handling the effects, and Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, Michael Rooker, and Andrew Lincoln are all set to star.

Carnivale had a large number of directors. For tv the story editor, producers and writers have more input than the director.
Having said that I'd feel pretty happy if they hired a few horror talents to do some episodes. William Malone and Tom Holland are a good start.

Too excited about this series; abso cannot wait to see it play out on TV. Bummer about Darabont, but as long as he keeps his eye on it, it should still be pretty bad-ass. Maybe not The Mist levels of bad-ass, but that's asking a lot.

Was it ever implied that he was writing and/or directing every episode? I was always under the impression that he'd be directing the first episode. I know that it's (relatively) common knowledge that he didn't write every episode, and Robert Kirkman wrote a couple.

I figured Darabont would only be directing the pilot like Bryan Singer did for "House." I'm not surprised. I'm still irked about the shoe horning of Michael Rooker, but otherwise I simply can't wait to see Rick and Andrea kicking zombie ass on screen.
I wonder who will play Michonne.
