*UPDATED* Michael Rooker Joining AMC's The Walking Dead
One genre staple whom we'd love to see obtain some mainstream success is Michael Rooker, and based on the news he recently posted from his Twitter account, it looks like he could be headed in that direction.
According to @Michael_Rooker on Twitter the actor is "on my way to Atlanta soon to work with my new best friend Frank Darabont on 'The Walking Dead'". And the stellar casting choices keep coming!
UPDATE: DC has confirmed Rooker's involvement in the project, and he will be playing a character named Merle. We don't recall anyone named Merle in Kirkman's opus so this may be the first original character to join the fray. Refresh our memories if we're wrong below.
The Walking Dead is based on Robert Kirkman's popular comic series. It chronicles the months and years following a zombie apocalypse. Frank Darabont is the project's writer, director, and exec producer with Anne Hurd and David Alpert also exec producing. KNB will be handling the effects, and Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, Steven Yeun, and Andrew Lincoln are all set to star.

Kirkman already stated that he's writing new characters into the series (as well as taking old ones out) so it ain't gonna be 100% like the comic.
Who cares? As long as he and Darabont are on it, it's gonna be good.

FYI: EVERYONE knows that characters go in and out in this series, but Kirkman is not doing that at the beginning of the issues by renaming them and adding people in to panels, so regardless Rooker is being shoe-horned in. And that's dumb.

Maybe you should watch the show before you jump to silly conclusions.

I think so. It's quite delish.

Wow, seems like they invented a character to shoehorn Rooker in to the series. First news I heard about the show that's annoyed me to no end. Still being optimistic.

Dude, just because there's a new character doesn't mean anyone's been "shoehorned in". As long as Kirkman's the one behind said new characters it's all good, man.

I'll wait and see, but I'm not enjoying just shoe horning in people just to feature them.

Rooker always delivers. Hell, he added dimension to what could have been a one note villain in Chuck.

Rooker? Oh yeah, this is gonna be good.

I like Rooker too, but just throwing him in there is lame. There should be a purpose with these casting choices.

Especially if you're making a movie about dolphins!
