More Super 8 Details

It's amazing the difference that a few hours can make. Just a little while ago we reported that the trailer for JJ Abrams' latest project Super 8 will be attached to prints of Iron Man 2 this weekend. Speculation started running rampant as to whether or not this could be a sequel to Cloverfield, and now the answer has come.

According to New York Magazine's Vulture:

****Spoilers follow. Do not read on if you don't want to know****

"Insiders familiar with the trailer tell us that it shows a bunch of kids who are shooting a movie with a Super 8 camera in the Seventies or Eighties. When they develop the film, they notice that there's an alien creature in the frame. Our sources also say that Super 8 is absolutely connected to 2008's Cloverfield (possibly a prequel, but not a sequel)."

****End spoilers****

Well, there you have it, folks. One way or another it looks as if Clovie is readying itself to start stomping around again. And in case you missed it before ...

To further entice (and confuse) you, footage of Abrams talking about his new "Mystery Box" has shown up online. What is it? What does it have to do with Super 8? Is this the long talked about Cloverfield sequel? Watch the video, and tell us your thoughts below. Let the discussion resume this weekend.

It's pretty interesting how DC is jumping head first in to the insanity this time around. I remember back 2008, Butane openly refused to post anything about the Cloverfield viral marketing. Funny.

And... this could be great. I hope it's great like Cloverfield was. Who knows? Maybe Clovie's origins are steeped in alien mythos. 90 percent of the monster is ambiguous. We don't even know how to kill the damn thing yet.

I don't remember that, but in any event, that was then ... this is now. Obviously a lot of changes have been made around here since then. ;)

Yeah, a buddy of mine sent pics that were planted on the net that revealed some origins of the monster and Butane told him that he wouldn't run it so as not to start a big ruckus again. Hey, she asked me, take it up with your old lady Creepster!

I won't go in to it further, okay? Relacks.

In either case, I approve the coverage.

Terminal ... we covered the hell out of Cloverfield -- both the viral campaign and otherwise. We may not have covered every single thing, but yes, we did the majority of it. So please ... with sugar on top ... stop complaining for like five minutes, okay? Thanks.

Dude, who's complaining? It's an ob-ser-va-tion. Damn, you need a thicker hide. You're like that popular girl who starts cutting herself because one person says something bad about her.

Wow. This guy really is just one long string of gimmicks.

I am guessing that this is just another thing that JJ uses to link all his projects together, kind of like Slusho. JJ said that the monster in Cloverfield lived in the ocean for thousands and thousands of years so I don't see the alien thing making much sense.

But there was that scene in Cloverfield where you can clearly see something being dropped into the water during one of the flashback portions at the end of the film.

Allegedly that was the satellite from that organizations that crashed in to the water awaking the beast from its slumber in the pits of the sea.
