Early Word on Halo-8's Next Projects - Medusa: Year One & Ben Templesmith's Black Sky
If, like most of us here in the Dread Central offices, you were a bit disappointed in the portrayal of Medusa in the latest version of Clash of the Titans, you should be pretty pleased to hear about an upcoming project from Halo-8's Matt Pizzolo entitled Medusa: Year One. Along with more details on that, we also have some early news on what exactly Ben Templesmith will be doing with those crazy kids at Halo-8.
First, per UGO, here's how Pizzolo describes Medusa: Year One -- "A twist on the Medusa origin-story kind of like Wicked, but mixed with a big epic romance like Titanic, but way less corny. And it's gonna be a blast to animate those snakes." Halo-8's president also acknowledged the departure Medusa: Year One is from his more recent work like Godkiller. "Most of my recent stuff has been pretty edgy and racy, but I'm changing things up a bit with this dark epic romance."

Now, for the really cool stuff. At last weekend's C2E2 in Chicago, Templesmith joined the Halo-8 panel "Illustrated Films & Comics", during which he showed off the first image from Black Sky, the new project he'll be doing with them later this year. From The Ben Templesmith Blog Thing (is that a great title, or what?):
"It's going to be an interesting ride, and Matt Pizzolo, F.J. DeSanto, and gang at Halo-8 are giving me a fantastic chance to explore the new dynamics opening up in storytelling media. And yes, there will be a comic book form of this also, in print. But that's a secondary production so will basically be an adaptation of what the original project will be. So in many ways the comic will probably have to have different/extra content. I find the whole idea of this process fascinating...
So what is BLACK SKY? So far, all I can say is sort of Band of Brothers...but with SQUID. (Well, Cthulhu-ish ideas and my love of all things tentactular.) Yes, it's a war comic. Want to get all emotional and down and dirty with it. Not exactly comedy in the vein of Wormwood... It's post apocalyptic. It deals with a small group of soldiers, as the human race is reduced to relatively low tech solutions to claw back their planet, the new religion that drives them on to this goal in the face of hopelessness...and all the stuff that comes from such things. Many horrific and, hopefully, some touching 'tales from the front' in many ways. And of course, they'll end up being players in a major event that may define the now generation's long conflict. Lots of action but with an actual point to it I hope, rather than an excuse to simply draw 'cool' things.
Humans are such fragile things.
Squid, not so much."
