Frank Darabont Talks The Walking Dead

One project we're keeping a very close eye on is Frank Darabont's adaptation of the Robert Kirkman zombie epic The Walking Dead. If ever there was a comic that warranted some form of screen adaptation, this is no doubt it, and we really believe Frank is the perfect person for the job.

In an interview with FEARnet Darabont spoke about his direction and what to expect from the series, which AMC has already ordered six episodes of:

"Robert Kirkman’s comic book series, the graphic novel series, is very much a template for us," he tells the site. "It’s a tremendous opportunity to take the subject as serious as possible, and really as a long-term exploration of characters, which is what television does best when television is really working. That’s our goal, so gosh, I really don’t think that Zombieland is any competition for us nor are we for them."

"It’s really going to be I think two different animals," he continues. "We’re much more beholden to Kirkman, which is a comfortable place to be because he has blazed a fantastic trail for us to follow. We will take detours along that path – we will take steps off the trail – but always wind up veering back onto the trail that Robert provides for us because it’s fantastic stuff."

I have faith in Darabont; he understands the genre and is a great story teller.

I think he's a safe bet to a run a sophisticated adult show.

I loved what Frank Darabont had to say on the making of Blade Runner.......that's all.

I don't expect Darabont and co. to follow the comic 100 percent, or even 90 percent, I just hope the pilot is very good and introduces a great zombie series that doesn't punk out on the violence.
