Almost Human EFX Takes a Ride on the Creep Van
For as long as I can remember, the one thing my mom always taught me was to never talk to strangers, especially strangers with creepy vans. Looks like there are a few people out there that still need to learn that lesson as producer Detroit Riot Productions today announced its partnership with visual FX veterans Almost Human for the upcoming indie horror film Creep Van.
Shooting in Detroit and northern Michigan for 21 days in May, Creep Van is being helmed by Scott W. McKinlay.
“We are making a film that needs to deliver a huge impact with our visual effects,” McKinlay said. “Almost Human has been a leader in this field for years so we are ecstatic about the opportunity to work with them on Creep Van.”
With such hits as The Pineapple Express, The Crazies, and Superbad under their belt, as well as some stunning work in the genre including The Burrowers, Quarantine, and the recent FearNet web series "Fear Clinic", McKinlay believes that Almost Human is the perfect choice to deliver groundbreaking effects for this horror-comedy about a maniacal man stalking innocent victims in his beat-up death van.
According to McKinlay, a lot of what made Almost Human a necessary partner in this project was Robert Hall’s directorial offering Laid to Rest, which he said featured some of the most stunning and cutting edge visuals in recent memory.
“Almost Human is excited to be working with Detroit Riot Productions on Creep Van,” added Hall. “Working on independent projects like this is fun for us because it really allows us to room to stretch creatively and gives us the opportunity to collaborate with Scott and his crew to deliver a killer flick.”
Starring Brian Kolodziej and Amy Wehrell, Creep Van will be the sophomore offering from director McKinlay. His 2007 debut, Gag, was released domestically by ThinkFilms. The film is being shot on the RED ONE system by up and coming director of photography and veteran camera operator Michael Walker, whose credits include the upcoming Steve Carell comedy Date Night, Step Brothers, Fast and Furious, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
