UK to Get the Black Death this May
Black Death, director Christopher Smith's follow-up to his mostly well-received Triangle, has been in process for about two years now (see our database on the film here for the full chain of events), and finally come May, 2010, Revolver Entertainment will be releasing the film in the UK.
Shock Till You Drop chatted with Smith as part of his promos for Triangle (review here), and the director explained why Revolver pushed Black Death back a few months from its originally scheduled February debut:
"The release date change by Revolver Entertainment was purely 'because of Season of the Witch and other sword and sorcery things [coming out]. We were trying - because I like to let a film live before it gets to the cinema - to aim [for May]. Why were we rushing it? The film isn't being changed; we just wanted to take it around [and] show it at festivals.'"
He also provided a bit more detail on the storyline, "I said, 'What if we took a realistic approach?' ... I wanted to find out what the characters felt and posit them on a journey of 'Is it real? Or is it not real?' What would a necromancer be like if he existed? We added this fundamentalist knight so it touches on fundamentalism. It's a super dark film ... it's like a dark parable about how things haven't really moved on in the last 600 years."

Torn between his love of God and the love of a young woman, Osmund discovers the necromancer, a mysterious beauty called Langiva (Carice van Houten). After Langiva reveals her Satanic identity and offers Osmund his heart's desire, the horror of his real journey begins..."
