Gob Bluth Says Jonah Hex Will Be Dark and Serious

Sorry, but it’s impossible for me to think of Will Arnett as anyone other than his Arrested Development persona, Gob Bluth. His involvement in this summer’s supernatural Western Jonah Hex has me more curious than I’d usually be, and today he’s promising that the comic’s signature dark tone will remain intact.

Superhero Hype sat down with Arnett to discuss his part in the film. "[My character] is much more serious, I hope. Otherwise I've failed miserably at my job. I play a guy who's in the Union army right after the Civil War. I enlist Jonah Hex, played by Josh Brolin, to do our bidding for us and to track down John Malkovich.” Arnett promises ”a very kind of heavy movie…it's dark and actiony...[a] real fun, dark, sweaty movie."

We’ll find out whether or not Hollywood stays true to Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti’s source material (which is currently undergoing ten days of additional shooting) when Jonah Hex, starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox, John Malkovich and, of course, Will Arnett, opens on June 18, 2010.

I'm getting some really bad vibes from everything I've seen so far. Like, 'Wild Wild West' bad. God, I hope Hex ends up being better than that runny pile of shit.

So far I've liked what I've seen. I have optimism that this movie will please fans of the character. I've never been a fan but I hope the movie convinces me to give the character a second chance. And Josh Brolin is a strong actor, I think he'll take Hex to new heights.

Seriously though, Arrested Development was one of the BEST shows EVER on TV...definitely one of the funniest. It's really sad that it didn't take off like it really should have. I love that show, just finished watching Season 1 again...
