New Images from The Asylum's Paranormal Entity

Paranormal Activity has bitterly divided audiences. Will opinions be as split over Paranormal Entity, The Asylum's slapped together at the eleventh hour mockbuster hitting DVD shelves next Tuesday? Will Paranormal Entity (review here) fare better than The Asylum's last stab at a cinema-verite mockbuster, its Cloverfield knock-off Monster?

The Asylum is going full speed ahead with the found footage premise, going so far as to post the following on its official website:

"There’s been some comment on the internet about our release called PARANORMAL ENTITY and why it hasn’t been posted on our website until now.

This has been a sensitive issue for all of us:

A few weeks ago we were approached by surviving members of the Finley family, who asked us to release never-before-seen home video footage shot by Thomas Finley, who was accused of murdering his sister, Samantha, in 2008, and who later took his own life in prison.

The family has always maintained that Thom was innocent of the crime and that Samantha’s tragic death was not caused by anything human.

Watch PARANORMAL ENTITY on December 22, 2009, and decide the truth for yourself."

Not to be outdone, the following production credits are listed:

Produced by: N/A
Directed by: N/A
Written by: N/A
Cinematography by: N/A
Starring: N/A

I can think of quite a few other Asylum productions I have seen where the people involved in making it should have tried remaining anonymous.

There is no trailer for Paranormal Entity despite the fact that it's coming out next week. Instead we get a few stills that give us an indication of what to expect.

NEXT STORY

By the way, I believe I know the woman playing the sister. I think she's an actress I directed in 2006 in a movie in St. Louis. However, out of respect for the filmmakers, I will not reveal her name as this is supposed to be an "actual even" and she is a real actress. But, this may be a step up for her from the project we worked on together. The writers/producers of that particular film had no clue what they were doing, stifled my creativity and freedom as a director and have never actually finished and released the film.

What I can't understand is how these guys can continue to put out crapfest after crapfest that horror fans with obviously no taste keep renting or buying, yet I'm an award winning filmmaker who has produced more interestingly creepy short flicks for around $250, have directed/produced over 30 projects, have a stack of movie and TV scripts and synopsis' and I can't even find anyone who can finance my feature film projects!!!! WTF?! Asylum, like Hollywood, suffers from a huge lack of talent. Filmmakers who can do nothing more than try to cash in on someone else's ideas through remakes or mocks.

Ugh! I'm so sick of Asylum. Pathetic wannabes that can't come up with anything original so they have to make terrible rip off versions of everything. Here's to hoping they go bankrupt sometime soon.

Those stills look infinitely more interesting than "Paranormal Activity" in its entirety...
