The Underworld franchise is pretty rare in that it actually has been getting better as it goes along. In fact, we'd call that a goddamn anomaly. With a fourth entry on the way, can the wheel keep rolling uphill?
According to THR's Heat Vision Blog that's indeed the plan as "The Shield" writer John Hlavin has been hired to pen the fourth installment in Screen Gems/Lakeshore's franchise.
Hlavin told the site the plot was under wraps, adding, "but I can tell you it's not a prequel." He further stated, "It will satisfy old fans and excite new audiences, meaning that we don't want to redo the first three movies, so steps are being taken to honor what fans have loved but at the same time introduce fresh elements."
Franchise creator Len Wiseman will be serving as a producer with Gary Lucchesi, Tom Rosenberg, and Richard Wright. No word yet on whether or not Kate Beckinsale will reprise her role. Stay tuned.

Honestly, after Underworld: Evolution, I'm tired of Beckinsale and Speedman. And I mean, really, what's left for them to do? They're borderline invincible and the only people who could be threats to them are all dead.

I can live without Beckinsale for sure. Maybe they'll take Speedman's character off in a new direction and bring in some fresh blood -- I wouldn't mind that at all.

I wouldn't mind that either. More Speedman is a good thing.

I like the series enough to check it out but unless Beckensale is in it, I'm not particularly interested.

Well, they could somehow bring Rhona Mitra back and I'd be even happier.

More Kate Beckinsale in leather? I'm there.
