Firefly Star Encounters Mothman on Syfy

No relation to the awful Mothman Prophecies movie (if you ever read the book, then you know why I just described the film as awful; and if you have never read the book, you should and then you, too, will realize why the film was so lame), Syfy has finally checked off enough other cryptids from its list to make a new film about the Mothman starring a "Firefly".

Not much is known about the plot of this Syfy-bound Mothman movie simply titled Mothman other than the glowy-eyed cryptozoological entity in this version also kills people, which I guess is a major step up from crank calling people in that terrible Richard Gere movie. Don't expect this one to adhere too closely to the facts of case either.

Sheldon Wilson (Shallow Ground, Screamers: The Hunting) is wrapping up post-production on this RHI Entertainment entry starring Jewel Staite of "Firefly" and "Stargate: Atlantis". Wilson also shares a writing credit alongside "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" writers Sonny Lee and Patrick Walsh.

Bloody Disgusting got the first hold of an American Film Market sales flyer for the RHI production, and it sure is awfully fancy for artwork promoting a Syfy flick. Unless the idea is to fool buyers into thinking their Mothman is in some way a follow-up to The Mothman Prophecies, in which case, bravo.

I think Jewel Staite is a decent actress. She has nice eyes and a really cute smile. Granted, she's not necessarily of the Oscarâ„¢ caliber, but she ain't bad. I liked her on Stargate: Atlantis, but then again I liked the characters on that show, especially how the Sheppard/McKay characters played off of each other. The "kick ass first, ask questions later" Ronon character was really cool. Then again I think that canceling it in favor of SG: Universe was a REALLY bad idea. Atlantis was a much better show with much better dialogue. I want to like Universe but so far it's kind of lame. It's just too dark and tries to be too serious. I'm not too hot for "Sanctuary" either.

I miss Battlestar Galactica. Thankfully, I have the entire series on DVD and can watch it any time I want. If Caprica can come anywhere close to Galactica it will be the best thing going on SciFi. And I REFUSE to call it "SyFy." That's just stupid.

I think that had more to do with her character than her acting ability imo. She was supposed to be the brilliant, country bumpkin of the crew.

From what I've seen of her in Firefly, it looks (to me anyway) that she has a lazy eye or something going on. It's become an inside joke with us. It has nothing to do with the fact that I think she's a pretty average actress.

Seriously Frank? Do you get this from Firefly or something else? She always seemed pretty hot to me in Firefly and especially Serenity never saw her in anything else. Not that I'm going to watch this anyway. For Nicole I would.

Jewel "crazy eyes" Staite? Think I'll pass. My wife and I always argue whether she's mildly retarded or not. Something about that chick seems off to me...

Jewel is a beautiful woman and I don't get too excited about any women other than Nicole Kidman.
