Animal Planet's Lost Tapes Found on DVD
Being a lifelong cryptozoology buff (even in kindergarten I was checking out library books on Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster), I have to confess to having a soft spot for the Animal Planet crypto show "Lost Tapes" even though being fully aware that the quality of the show ranges from intriguing to unintentionally laughable to downright awful.
I still prefer it to the History Channel's "MonsterQuest" AKA the weekly one-hour program where researchers go looking for a monster and never find a damn thing.
Each half-hour episode of "Lost Tapes" is like "MonsterQuest" done in the style of the Blair Witch Project, combining fake "found footage" of people experiencing a traumatic encounter with the cryptid-of-the-week that is never actually shown on camera interwoven with speculative factoids behind the allegedly real creatures people claim to have sighted. You'll see bad and amateur actors being terrorized by familiar faces like Bigfoot and Mothman and the Chupacabra; you'll also be introduced to lesser known cryptids such as a giant komodo dragon said to stalk the jungles of Thailand and a large freshwater octopus prowling the Mississippi River
Animal Planet will be releasing all fourteen episodes of the first season of "Lost Tapes" to DVD on October 6th retailing for around $19.95.
Season one episodes:
Monster of Monterey
They need to do another episode explaining what the heck that shadowy creature on the DVD artwork is supposed to be. Is that meant to represent Sasquatch, a grizzly bear, or the giant werewolf from the end of the Mario Van Peebles' flick Full Eclipse?
