Michael Bassett has suddenly gone from direct-to-video director to helming a potentially epic series based on character created by Conan writer Robert E. Howard. Not a bad move if you can make it!
The word came down this morning via Daily Variety that Bassett (Deathwatch, Wilderness) has been tapped to helm the first in a trilogy of movies based on Howard’s Solomon Kane stories, about a soldier whose brutal actions damn his soul to hell, so he vows to become an extension of God’s fury on earth, eradicating both commonplace and supernatural foes in the name of good.
James Purefoy of “Rome” fame has been cast in the lead, at least for the first film, which is being produced by Silent Hill producer Samuel Hadida of Davis Films. Cameras are expected to roll this year, so look for a lot more updates on Solomon Kane very soon!
