Rodriguez's Predator Film a Sequel?

Since the Robert Rodriguez film Predators was announced, there's been some confusion. Is it a remake or a sequel? Today some inside info dropped leaning toward the sequel route.

MovieHole got word from someone close to the project that Rodriquez wants his film to be a direct sequel to the original John McTiernan helmed Predator and has even gone so far as to ask Schwarzenegger to reprise his role as Dutch.

"Like Terminator, they know Schwarzenegger's a vital ingredient of the franchise. Ideally, Arnold will see it that way too. Ball is in his court now," says MovieHole.

Schwarzenegger's "Dutch" has already been written into the script; no word yet on the size of the part. We're thinking cameo, but hey, as proved by Terminator: Salvation, when it comes to Arnie, anything is possible!

Predator 2 is fucking awful. Acting, directing, cinematography and writing are all abysmal. Though I suppose it might fall into the "so bad it's good" category.

Glad they're ignoring it. The original film owns it in every possible way.

To be honest, I'm glad they're going that route too. As much as I enjoy the second one, the first one is truly one of the best 80's sci-fi films.

They might use the concrete jungle storyline. Which would be fine with me because i liked that one.

Predator 2 was good despite some loony moments. Still like the Ah-nuld one better.
I do remember seeing the alien skull in the ship and getting 5 kinds of excited. Then years later our dreams came true. Only someone took a shat all over them. With no lights.

Why bypass "Predator 2"? I thought that was an excellent sequel, even with the iffy ending.

I'll say it...again. I like Predator 2 more than Predator.

I guess you and I were the only ones who liked it. I thought it set up many possibilities for Predator hunting parties in all manner of time periods for later films.

Absolutely. I can watch that third act over and over again, just classic.

Yup, Predator 2 is pure 80's excess and dripping with awesome set-pieces and insanely quotable lines.

I find it incredibly fun.

It took the best of what worked in the first film, gave it a twist by setting it in the city and introduced the drug-war element, and then to top it all off we got Gary Busey. People rave about "The Empire Strikes Back", "Aliens" and "The Dark Knight" as being examples of sequels that surpassed the original film, but for me I would happily add to that list "Predator 2".
