Exclusive Video Interviews: Elizabeth Olsen, Chris Kentis, and Laura Lau Talk Silent House and More

This Friday, March 9th, Open Road Films is set to release Chris Kentis and Laura Lau’s Silent House (review here), the “one-take” thriller centered around a young woman named Sarah (Elizabeth Olsen) who finds herself under attack while trapped inside her family’s creaky old vacation home.
For this remake of the 2010 Uruguayan film La Casa Muda, both Kentis and Lau embraced the source material’s approach and ambitiously set off to make their own one-take horror film that follows Olsen’s character as she desperately fights her way out of the house before it’s too late.
Recently Dread Central had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Lau, Kentis, and Olsen during Silent House‘s press day and heard more about the intricacies and challenges of making a movie where you can’t use the power of editing to fix any problems along the way, the differences between the original film and Open Road’s Silent House, and how preparation was the most important element for both Kentis and Lau in pulling off the film successfully.
During our interview with Olsen, the up-and-coming actress also gave us an update on some of her other future projects, saying, “I recently had two films come out during Sundance that are very different than Silent House and Martha (Marcy May Marlene) were – Red Lights and Liberal Arts – and both of those will be coming out later this year.”
“Rodrigo (Red Lights director Cortés) is a genius and was so great to work with. He knows exactly what he wants in his films, and I think that movie is incredibly fun to watch. Getting to see it with an audience (at Sundance) was a blast because there are some insane things that happen in this film that you can’t help but scream or flinch. Cillian Murphy kills it in Red Lights- he’s so good.”
“I’ve also got a movie coming up that I’m about to start shooting called Kill Your Darlings. I have a small part in it, and it’s about Allen Ginsberg and other writers so that’s going to be really great to work on soon. It’s not a biopic, but it’s a look at these writers’ lives before they became famous.”
