In celebration of another milestone in the countdown to the release of The Hunger Games, with under 24 days until the film’s release, mirroring the 24 tributes in the story, Lionsgate has announced 24 advance screenings brought to you by NOOK® by Barnes & Noble.
Here are the details:
Fans can show their support for #HungerGames24 by visiting the Screenings.TheHungerGamesMovie.com website and tweeting a unique hashtag assigned to their closest city to unlock advance screening locations. Starting tomorrow, March 1, the top four cities with the most Twitter volume will be announced each day, and fans will then be able to enter to win tickets to those locations.
In addition, Barnes & Noble is giving NOOK fans in select cities the opportunity to gain exclusive access to see The Hunger Games before its official theatrical release. On March 10, while supplies last, the first customers to purchase any of Barnes & Noble’s award-winning NOOK devices – including NOOK Tablet™, NOOK Color™, or NOOK Simple Touch™ – at select Barnes & Noble stores will receive two complimentary tickets to the official advance screening on March 21. To locate participating Barnes & Noble stores, visit the Nook.com/hungergames website.
In the story, Tributes are sponsored based on their first impression at the opening ceremonies, training scores, impressions made in the interviews, performance in the arena, as well as a number of other factors. Donations from sponsors range from medicines to food to weapons and more. Because of this, Lionsgate brought on 12 DISTRICT SPONSORS to each host two of these advance screenings and offer 24 fans the chance to win a pair of tickets.
The digital campaign follows those for #HungerGames100, #HungerGames74, and #HungerGames50, which marked milestones in the campaign with similar interactive fan activities.
Fans who don’t have an advance screening near them may be able to meet and greet the cast at their local mall during the National Mall Tour beginning in March. Click here for more info on that.
The Hunger Games, directed by Gary Ross, stars Donald Sutherland, Woody Harrelson, Wes Bentley, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Liam Hemsworth, Paula Malcolmson, Willow Shields, Latarsha Rose, Lenny Kravitz, Brooke Bundy, Leven Rambin & Jack Quaid (#1), Alexander Ludwig & Isabelle Fuhrman (#2), Ian Nelson & Kalia Prescott (#3), Ethan Jamieson & Tara Macken (#4), Chris Mark & Jackie Emerson (#5), Ashton Moio & Kara Petersen (#6), Sam Ly & Leigha Hancock (#7), Samuel Tan & Mackenzie Lintz (#8), Imanol Yepez-Frias & Annie Thurman (#9), Jeremy Marinas & Dakota Hood (#10), Amandla Stenberg & Dayo Okeniyi (#11), and Jennifer Lawrence (Katniss) & Josh Hutcherson (Peeta) (#12).
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss (Lawrence) is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
Lionsgate will release The Hunger Games on March 23, 2012.
