Dougherty Penning Dead @ 17 Script?

It’s been a long time since we heard much about an adaptation of the 4-issue comic series Dead @ 17, but it seems things have been moving and shaking on the project behind the scenes that may see its eventual creation on a much larger scale than originally expected.

Comics on Comics got word that Mike Dougherty (Trick ‘r Treat) is working on a screenplay for the film version of Josh Howard’s comic series about two girls trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. One of them is killed but comes back to life to help fight back the zombie hoard as a very special, very sexy kind of ass-kicker.

The rumor now is that High School Musical starlet Vanessa Hudgens is being pursued to take on the lead in a Dead @ 17 film. You may recall that indie filmmaker Mark Steensland created a short prequel to Dead @ 17 a while back, showing the origin of the character. No word on whether he will be involved in the film as well, but we’ll give you more when we get it!
