Horror Comes to WiiWare
This one came out of left field. According to Joystiq, this week’s WiiWare release is Lit, a horror puzzle game that makes use of light sources to provide safety to your character.
For those who aren’t familiar, WiiWare is a place for download-only game titles on the Wii, much like Xbox Live Arcade or the PSN. As with the Wii, it’s been overflowing with cutesy, kid-friendly titles since its inception last year. That’s why this announcement is a surprise, even if the title is rated E10+.
In Lit you play Jake, a high school kid who’s having a bad day. Some sort of creatures have taken over your school, and anyone who steps into the dark is taken by them and, I assume, mangled in some dreadful way. Using light sources, you need to create bridges to cross shadows and find your lost girlfriend, Rachel.
It sounds like a unique concept, and it’s always nice to hear that the grues are getting work after all these years. We’ll try to get some eyeballs on this one ASAP and report back on whether this is a much needed shot in the arm for the Wii or if it’s another gimmicky ‘where’s the beef’ entry.
