When Heather sent over the news last night about Clint Howard wrapping up a bit of filming on Rob Zombie’s The Lords of Salem, something rang a bell about him being involved so we did a little digging back at the source of all things Zombie (i.e., his Facebook page) and saw that he had indeed mentioned Howard’s involvement, although not quite as you’d expect. Read on for the details.

Remember when we reported on the film-within-the-film Frankenstein Versus The Witchfinder? At that time Howard’s name came up along with Udo Kier, Daniel Roebuck, and Camille Keaton, but not many details were known other than that Frankenstein Versus The Witchfinder was “a lost classic being screening at the WIQZ Freak-Fest” within the reality Zombie was creating for The Lords of Salem. Now we have the casting breakdown and a new bit of artwork showing the four stars:

UDO KEIR as Matthew Hopkins aka Klaus the Reaper (the hero)
CLINT HOWARD as Carlo Caravaggio (the dwarf)
DAN ROEBUCK as The Frankenstein Monster (the creature)
CAMILLE KEATON as Doris Von Fux (the wench)

Now it all makes sense, right?

Jason Blum, Steven Schneider, and Oren Peli of Haunted Pictures are producing The Lords of Salem as well as Zombie regulars Andy Gould and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. Zombie’s guitarist John 5 is set to handle the score.

Synopsis
Heidi, a blonde rock chick, DJs at a local radio station and, together with the two Hermans (Whitey and Munster), forms part of the “Big H Radio Team”.

A mysterious wooden box containing a vinyl record arrives for Heidi, “a gift from the Lords”. She assumes it’s a rock band on a mission to spread their word. As Heidi and Whitey play the Lords’ record, it starts to play backwards, and Heidi experiences a flashback to a past trauma.

Later Whitey plays the Lords’ record, dubbing them the Lords of Salem, and to his surprise, the record plays normally and is a massive hit with listeners.

The arrival of another wooden box from the Lords presents the Big H Team with free tickets, posters and records to host a gig in Salem. Soon Heidi and her cohorts find that the gig is far from the rock spectacle they’re expecting: The original Lords of Salem are returning, and they’re out for BLOOD.
