Exclusive: THE GREAT BUDDHA ARRIVAL Adds Kaiju Acting Legend

Just over a month ago, we brought you news of the majestic looking The Great Buddha Arrival (Daibutsu Kaikoju), an upcoming Japanese kaiju film that pays homage to the “daimajin” movies of the 60’s. A remake of the 1934 movie of the same name, this iteration will be directed by Hiroto Yokokawa and will star Yoshihiko Ohtsuki, Junichiro Nirasawa and Kazuma Yoneyama.

Today, we can confirm that legendary kaiju actor Akira Takarada has joined the cast! Takarada has appeared in six of the Gojira films, including the original 1954 entry! Fun fact: he played a different character in each of those movies because continuity is for the birds.

The film raised funds on Kickstarter and plans to release the film in December after it films in August. Sound like a tight production? It most certainly is!

Check out a teaser below and get ready for some Great Buddha city stomping this winter!
